A week after the complete dismantling of the Nebraska defense the Buckeye offense will look to get right back up on that proverbial horse and get it going again. In the following paragraphs you will find a few interesting things to keep an eye during Saturdays game against the Hoosiers of Indiana.
First off, basic mathematic fundamentals of addition and subtraction can be directly applied to Urban Meyers roster. An already strong secondary re-adds C.J. Barnett and a thin line backing crew subtracts a big tackle guy Etienne Sabino.
With the Indiana Hoosiers running a spread offense with a lot of 3 and 4 wide receiver sets look for the Buckeyes to run a lot of nickel and dime packages subtracting a linebacker and adding another defensive back.
Line backers Storm Klein and Ryan Shazier will have there word cut out for them this weekend, although Urban Meyer is a big advocate of the next man up mentality, there will be younger players that will get opportunities, but look for him and Luke Fickell to settle in with their proven play makers in this game.
On the offensive side of the ball, is the Braxton Miller show. These Buckeyes will go as far as he is willing to take them. Sure, there are other play makers on this offense, but when the shifty Miller has time and room to operate just stand back and watch him wiggle and tip toe towards the end zone.
The most important key to winning this game against the Indiana Hoosiers will be the performance of the defense as a unit, if they can stop or at least slow down the Hoosier spread attack the Buckeyes should roll.
It seems as the year progresses that the number of hits and sacks on opposing quarterbacks are certainly adding up, anchoring a monster 4 man front the Buckeyes horrifying duo of big John Hankins and John Simon are terrorizing opposing offensive lines to the point where there’s always a Buckeye in the opponents backfield.
Look for that trend to continue in this weeks contest, simply because when those two get in a groove, there aren’t many people who can slow them down enough for them to not cause raucous in the backfield. It is certain that with the spread offense this week they will have there word cut out for them if they are to get to the quarterback that will get the ball out of his hands very quickly.
Now that you have some things to keep an eye out for in this weeks contest, maybe you will be able to get into the game that much more and root on your Buckeyes.
