Most of the time, the Ohio State vs. Michigan rivalry is relegated to the football field. But if recent history is any indication, the battle between the Buckeyes and that school in Ann Arbor is growing on the hardwood as well.
For the first time in a long time, Ohio State and Michigan will play against each other while both are ranked in the top 25 nationally. The squads have taken the Big Ten by storm so far, with each team posting a 6-2 mark against conference opponents.
Ohio State has the advantage in star power, but Michigan has demonstrated a high level of team chemistry. Both teams have lost tough games against Indiana but had great runs in non-conference play.
Michigan has not demonstrated that it can play its best basketball on the road yet. The Wolverines are a perfect 12-0 at home but are only 2-4 outside of Ann Arbor. And a contest at the Schottenstein Center is not a typical road game.
The Buckeyes need to exploit Michigan's inside game through power forward Jared Sullinger. Michigan has a great 3-point presence, but Ohio State will have an edge in the paint, and that could be enough to propel the Buckeyes to victory.
Ohio State has won 90 games in the rivalry, and Michigan has won 71. But the Wolverines would love to pull off their third top-10 upset of the year. Michigan defeated Memphis and Michigan State earlier this year.
The game starts at 1 p.m. and can be seen on CBS.
